    Position Title: Safety Coordinator
    Assignment: Safety & Security

    Nature of Work:
    This position is responsible for coordinating the District’s emergency management procedures including the development, implementation and monitoring of safety and security plans. Responsibilities include: safety, security and response training of all staff, coordinating emergency procedure drills, partnering with administration on the development of site specific response plans and leading the District’s threat assessment oversight committee.
    Typical Class Responsibilities:
    • Coordinates and implements the District’s safety and security procedures and emergency response protocol including training all employees and monitoring program effectiveness.
    • Plans and conducts random safety and security audits of all facilities and assists administration in program specific plans and procedures.
    • Coordinates and oversees emergency procedure drills at all facilities.
    • Reviews all medium and high threat assessments to ensure proper response and safety measures are in place. Debriefs with program teams after a safety or emergency incident.
    • Leads the district threat assessment oversight committee.
    • Researches trends in safety and security breaches and recommends and implements improvements to the District’s emergency management procedures.
    • Communicates with local law enforcement and other agencies to ensure a coordinated response to all district emergencies.
    • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
    Training and Experience Requirements:
    • Associate’s Degree or two-year technical certificate in related field.
    • Formal training in safety and security, emergency management, FEMA and/or threat assessments.
    • Two years of relevant experience performing similar duties.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    Knowledge Requirements:
    • Incident Commander System;
    • FEMA Preparedness;
    • Emergency management principles;
    • Threat assessment principles;
    • Federal, state and local building codes;
    • Customer service principles;
    • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
    • Recordkeeping principles;
    • Computers and related software applications.
    Skill Requirements:
    • Managing and monitoring programs;
    • Preparing and conducting training sessions;
    • Crisis management;
    • Providing customer service;
    • Preparing and maintaining records and reports;
    • Operating a computer and applicable software applications;
    • Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
    Physical Requirements:
    Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
    Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
